Family Court statistics released

The Ministry of Justice today released the second annual report of Family Court statistics: Family Court Statistics 2005.

The report provides a statistical overview of the activity in the Family Court and those who access its services based on applications made and disposed in the Court in 2005.

The report presents statistics according to the types of cases frequently heard in the Family Court:

  • guardianship cases
  • domestic violence cases
  • care and protection cases
  • relationship property cases
  • protection of personal and property rights cases
  • mental health cases
  • counselling requests
  • adoption cases
  • dissolution of marriage or civil union applications.

For each case type, the report looks at applications and cases in 2005, trends since 1998, indicative statistics on the length and outcomes of cases, and the demographics of the main participants of cases.

The report is available on the Ministry of Justice website: www.justice.govt.nz .
