CONVICTION AND SENTENCING STATISTICS RELEASED

The Ministry of Justice today released its latest yearly report of criminal conviction and sentencing statistics, Conviction and Sentencing of Offenders in New Zealand: 1996 to 2005.

The report is the most comprehensive compilation of statistics on criminal court proceedings and sentencing, providing useful data on long-term trends for government agencies and the general public.

For the first time, the report’s data will also be available on the Statistics New Zealand website, allowing the public to view custom tables and graphs.

The report Conviction and Sentencing of Offenders in New Zealand: 1996 to 2005 is available from the Ministry of Justice website: www.justice.govt.nz.
