Appendix 3 – Courts Energy Efficiency programme

The Ministry of Justice has developed a ‘Roadmap’ to improve the energy efficiency of their Courts property portfolio.

The objective of the ‘Roadmap’ is to embed changes that will reduce overall energy consumption by 15 -20% of the average annual energy consumption over the last three years.

The Road Map is characterized by:

• Presenting complex data in easily interpreted graphs

• Consolidating electricity supply with a single supplier to facilitate better reporting and reduce costs.

• Leveraging the experience and expertise of specialists in the energy sector.

• Prioritising energy savings initiatives based on the 80/20 rule (20% of the Ministry’s sites account for 80% of the consumption).

• Utilising readily available information to educate building users.

• Making energy consumption visible - By ‘talking about it’ peoples behaviours’ are changed.

• Ensuring that savings are consistently delivered through;
